Secret rooftop meetings never get old

Tonight happened to be one of those nights, I just wanted to escape from the world around me. It was one of those nights, where my only escape was this old rooftop. I don’t know why, but on nights like theses, sitting outside under the moon and stars makes me feel better.

‘The only thing that could make this night even better would be having {Name} out here with me.’ I thought as I started looking for constellations. Usually she and I always sneak out after midnight, together, but she was sick tonight. Tonight, didn’t feel like the usual ‘escape’ without her here.

It just felt strange not having her here since; we’ve been doing this for years now, together. I was really lonely. It felt weird having no {Name}, with me spouting off random information about anything and everything. She was an ‘Odd Duck,’ as her family like to put it. “But, she’s my Odd Duck though.” I said out loud softly, still searching for constellations.

“I’m not that odd am I, Vladimir?” A croaky voice asked, somewhere behind me. Whipping around I turn to see {Name}, in her pajamas bundled up in a thick pull-over and tennis shoes. “What are you doing out here? You’re sick!”

I started to scold her, quietly, telling her that she should be inside and not out on the rooftop. {Name} just grinned at me, “And here I thought you would be missing me, besides I’m not that sick.” My scolding stopped, “Of course I miss you, it’s that I just don’t want you to get even sicker.” I told her as I made my way over to her.

“Can I at least stay here with you for a few minutes, before going back to bed… Please?” She begged me with puppy dog eyes. She always gets me with those damn eyes of hers, “Fine… But only for a few minutes, got it?” {Name} smiled at me brightly and nodded her head understanding.

{Name} looked up to the sky and started to point out constellations, in seconds of seeing the night sky. It amazed me how many she knew and the stories behind them too. And those few minutes became hours, filled with stories and our silent laughter together.
